What To Expect At Your Visit

Learn About My Methods

I implement effective counseling methods to instill self-awareness among patients and encourage them to adopt new attitudes and feelings towards life situations. It is essential to keep in mind that counseling is not a magic pill or a quick fix: counseling is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and caretaker alike. But in the end, making small changes to self-defeating behavior and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.
In testing I administer a wide variety of assessments to help you gain a better understanding of you or your child’s strengths and weaknesses and help pinpoint potential barriers to learning. I believe in a holistic approach in assessment to consider all avenues that could be having an impact on you or your child. Evaluations generally include intellectual functioning, academic achievement, and social/emotional functioning. Additional assessment areas  may be recommended depending on referral concerns (e.g., executive functioning, long-term memory, Autism etc.)

Additional Services

1

Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, and Dysgraphia Screening

If a full neuropsychological evaluation isn’t the right fit for your budget or your child’s needs right now, we offer focused screening assessments designed specifically to identify signs of dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia. These streamlined screeners zero in on the areas you're most concerned about and include a clear, professional report of the results.

This cost-effective option gives families valuable insight into potential learning challenges—often providing the clarity they need to take the next step with confidence.

2

ADHD/Executive Functioning Assessment

If you suspect ADHD in yourself or your child, we provide comprehensive evaluations designed to deliver clarity and direction. With ADHD becoming increasingly overdiagnosed, many families are left with labels that don’t reflect the full picture. Our approach is different.

We conduct in-depth ADHD and executive functioning assessments that draw on multiple standardized measures, professional observations, and structured interviews. This thorough process ensures that each evaluation reflects the individual—not a one-size-fits-all checklist.

At the conclusion of the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed, professionally written report outlining the findings and providing guidance on next steps. Our goal is to give you accurate answers and actionable recommendations you can trust.

3

Autism Evaluation

If you have concerns about the possibility of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) for yourself or your child, MikeThePsych provides both comprehensive screeners and full diagnostic evaluations tailored specifically to autism. With ASD being discussed more frequently than ever—and diagnoses sometimes made without a full understanding of the individual—families deserve evaluations they can trust.

Our assessment process combines high-quality standardized instruments with meaningful parental input and clinical expertise to ensure a thorough, accurate understanding of each person’s strengths and challenges. Every evaluation includes a detailed written report and a clear explanation of the findings, empowering families with the knowledge and guidance they need to take the next steps with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do you charge for counseling?

The base rate is $150/session. Special fees may apply for circumstances such as court ordered counseling. This can be discussed prior to your first appointment.

How long does each counseling session take?

Each session will last approximately 45-55 minutes and will depend on age of the client and what is being discussed on a particular day.

Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance, however some insurance companies will reimburse you for mental health services. I am more than happy to provide documentation to your insurance provider at your request and you may receive reimbursement. Please discuss this with your provider.

How much do you charge for psychoeducational evaluations?

I typically bill per assessment/component of the evaluation. This will differ depending on the referral concern and prices can fluctuate due to this. Please contact me for a breakdown of pricing. Discounted rates may be provided if testing is wanted for more than one person. Former clients have reported my pricing to be almost half the cost compared to some of the more familiar names in the area due to our tailored assessments. Other psychologists often have one fixed price that includes a plethora of additional testing components that are either redundant or unrelated to the referral concerns.

How long does the testing process take?

The time may vary depending on the types of testing you are requesting, but in general the assessments will take place over the course of a few sessions (typically 1-2). Sessions may last 1-3 hours depending on you or the child’s stamina and/or unique needs. Once the testing is completed, an additional week is given to write up the report and interpret the findings. Pricing will vary depending on areas of concern and test selection.

What makes MikeThePsych unique?

Michael stands out as one of the few psychologists in the area with deep, hands-on experience in the school system. This unique perspective allows him to expertly guide parents through the often confusing world of educational services—from Section 504 plans and IEPs to specialized programming and school-based supports.

He provides families with clear, actionable coaching and certain necessary documentation to advocate effectively for their child. Parents consistently return to Michael throughout their child’s school years, noting his guidance as instrumental in helping their children thrive both academically and emotionally.

Can you prescribe medication?

No. If you are seeking medication, then you must contact a Psychiatrist. Psychologists typically have not gone through medical school and therefore do not have the capability to prescribe medication.

Do you accept funds from the Step-Up For Students Scholarship?

Yes! I am currently an approved provider and business for the Step-Up scholarship. I have been approved for both counseling and psychoeducational assessments. Please go to the step-up for student website and find MikeThePsych LLC through them to help process everything.

"I couldn’t speak more highly of Mike. But more importantly, neither can my son. I initially sought after therapy for my ten year old when he had some pretty major family related changes on the horizon. Mike had the innate ability to help my son tap into feelings and emotions he previously had issues verbalizing. This not only helps him with the family changes, but with his everyday life (school, friends etc). He works in the school system so that’s a huge bonus as well. I have seen such amazing, positive growth since he started weekly therapy. My son has never not wanted to go to a session, and genuinely gets excited when that day of the week comes. He’s a great guy and great his craft. I couldn’t recommend more."

Frances Lacson, FL
